Principal Message

Mr. Caricari

It is hard to believe that we are already in the month of October! This month brings many changes - cooler weather in the mornings and evenings, color changes to the leaves, and the conclusion of the fall sports season. More importantly during the month of October, the first quarter comes to an end on the 19th.  With that said, I encourage all students and parents to continue checking grades in Parent Portal to see if there are any assignments that have a zero as the grade. Students with any zeroes are encouraged to see their teacher immediately to see if points can still be earned for the assignment(s). If you have yet to get connected to Parent Portal, please go to the following link for more information: Parent Portal .

This past week we had an exciting day on Wednesday as many of our students, staff, and parents celebrated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in our PINK OUT day at school and then at the athletic events that evening. We had a huge crowd and our athletic teams put forth tremendous effort and exhibited fantastic sportsmanship the entire evening. The evening ended in a scary way as one of our 8th grade football players suffered a serious injury. The injury resulted in him being transported to the hospital in an ambulance with a back and neck injury. After spending several hours in the hospital, he was cleared to go home. Thankfully, the end result is no damage to the neck and back. He was able to return to school on Friday albeit with a very sore back. We are all thankful that a full recovery is expected. I want to take this opportunity to thank the following people for the genuine care that they displayed during this situation: Dr. McCaskill, Mr. Woodard (FMMS parents), and Coach Bradley for their teamwork in caring for our injured student. Also, to Coach Hall for lending support to our student and his parents by staying at the hospital until the doctors released him early Thursday morning.

In closing, the FMMS PTO will be hosting a Teacher Luncheon on Friday, October 20th to show appreciation to our teachers and staff. If you would like to contribute items to the luncheon or volunteer for the event, please go to the following sign-up genius link: Please drop-off your items to the front office on Friday, October 20th by 9am. Non- perishable items may be dropped off prior to the 20th.

Please continue reading for important dates and information.

The Direction of Your Dreams

What a fun week at FMMS!  I got to spend two days working with 8th graders in their Family and Consumer Science and Computer Science classes discussing soft skills.  On Thursday, a professional from Allen Tate Realty and I talked about professionalism and interviewing.  On Friday, students got a chance to practice what they had learned by doing mock interviews with hiring managers from Publix and Wells Fargo.  By practicing soft skills like preparedness, good eye contact, confident body language and appropriate follow-up, students can set themselves apart from their peers as they apply for their first jobs and create good habits that will follow them through their career.
