Principal Message

Mr. Caricari

If you recall back in early February, the FMMS 8th-Grade Beta Club sponsored a food drive for the Fort Mill Care Center. Many of our students, staff, and families graciously participated as we were able to donate 536 pounds of food to the Fort Mill Care Center! Please go to the following link to read the nice letter that we received from the center:Letter From FMC Center . Thanks again to all who were able to participate in this worthy cause that benefited people in our community.

The week in review at FMMS: On Monday, our baseball team hosted Springfield and came up on the short end of the scoreboard against the Mustangs. The FMMS Mock Trial team attended the Fort Mill School Board meeting and was recognized by the board for winning the state championship. The recognition certificate is located in our trophy case. Our soccer teams were also in action on Tuesday evening as they traveled to Gold Hill. We split with the Bulldogs as the girls lost and boys won in their matches. On Wednesday, the FMMS Academic Challenge teams hosted Sullivan. All three matches were hotly contested. The 6th-grade team had a great comeback victory while our 7th and 8th-grade teams came up a little short at the end against the Falcons. Our baseball and track teams were also in action on Wednesday as they all traveled to Pleasant Knoll. The baseball team lost their contest to the Knighthawks, the girls finished third in the three-way meet against Pleasant Knoll and Gold Hill, and the boys finished in second place against the Knighthawks and Bulldogs. Thursday evening, our soccer teams hosted Oakridge. We split with the Golden Eagles as the girls won and the boys lost in their matches.

Our 2nd Annual Family Literacy Night is quickly approaching. The event will take place a week from this Tuesday on March 20th at 6:00 pm.  Our Special Guest will be Caitlin Alifirenka, one of the authors of the book, I Will Always Write Back that we read as our One Book, One School initiative in the fall. She will have a book signing at the event; therefore, if you want to purchase a book to have signed by Mrs. Alifirenka, please go to the following link to retrieve an order form: Book Order Form. The last day to turn in book order forms is March 13! Also, please go to the following link for the flyer about our event:FMMS Literacy Night.

In closing, the third quarter will end this Thursday, March 15 with report cards going home with students on Wednesday, March 21. Please continue reading for important dates and information.

This field trip will help our students further engage in their dramatic, dance, and musical education alongside hundreds of other middle school performers. The field trip is scheduled for Wednesday, March 28, 2018.  19 7th graders and 17 8th graders will be attending.

One School + Education = Hope (1S+E=H)

The February fundraiser netted $168 for the cause. The FMMS Student Council continued with the “change for change” initiative as they collected change (and dollars) in front of the media center on Friday morning. Several students and staff donated and got to ring the bell.

If you want to know more about the cause, please go to the following link:

FMMS is teaming up with a local organization called Education = Hope to provide students in Ecuador with the essentials that they need in order to receive an education. The student council will sponsor a fundraiser each month until the end of the school year.

Let Me Run

Let Me Run is a running program for 4th thru 8th-grade boys, but it’s more about the boy than the run. Counteracting the negative pressures society places on boys, the program uses running as the vehicle to inspire, teach, and reach them. Combining exercise with fun activities and lessons, our trained coaches inspire boys to be courageous enough to be themselves, build healthy relationships, and live an active lifestyle. Registration at FMMS will open March 1 for mainly 6th graders! Spring season starts on March 27, meets Tuesday and Thursday after school for an hour and fifteen minutes, and ends with a 5k race on May 19.  Watch the video and register at the following link:

The Direction of Your Dreams

Our 7th-grade students will be attending a district-wide Career Fair on Friday, March 23.  The Career Fair will be held at Pleasant Knoll Middle School and all of the 7th-grade students in Fort Mill will attend.  Approximately 50 professionals in a variety of careers will be available to talk with students and answer questions.  Prior to Career Fair, 7th -graders will take an interest inventory so that they have some direction about who they want to visit that day.  We are going to meet with students to prepare them for Career Fair but parents can help, as well.  Please talk with your child about his/her interests, make a list of questions to ask presenters, explain soft skills like eye contact and handshakes and encourage professional dress that day.  If you have any questions about Career Fair or are interested in being a presenter, please email me at
