Principal Message

Mr. Caricari

I hope all of our students and families enjoyed the break from school this past week. Here is something to think about as we return to school tomorrow – We only have 35 more days of school for this year; therefore, it is important for our students to come in tomorrow ready to put forth the effort needed to finish strong.

Only one thing happened over the break that I know of involving one of our students. We have a 7th grade student (I do not include names of students in the weekly letters) who qualified to participate in the State Geography Bee that took place in Columbia this past Friday. There were 102 participants from around our state and our student finished in 4th place! What an accomplishment!

In closing, we have many events listed below that are right around the corner. Please continue reading for important dates and information that pertain to you.

One School + Education = Hope (1S+E=H)

The student council continued with the “change for change” initiative as they collected change (and dollars) in front of the media center on Friday morning. Here are some updates on the Carmen Bajo community center in Ecuador:

  • Since January, we have raised $1200.00, which will provide for an afterschool program for 46 students for 5 months.
  • At literacy night, we also collected $85.00 in bills in the “Change for Change” bucket, which will pay for 17 students to ride the bus to and from school next month.
  • Casa Adalia is a “next step” home for young women ages 18-22 who have been rescued from desperate and vulnerable situations. Profits from the jewelry they make help pay for their education, which empowers them to make positive life choices towards a meaningful future.  On literacy night, we collected $700 in profits from the HOPE bracelet sales! To date, we have donated $1200 to Casa Adalia through jewelry sales at FMMS.

FMMS has teamed up with a local organization called Education = Hope to provide students in Ecuador with the essentials that they need in order to receive an education.
